Support:

The first photo shows the roadless land that was auctioned off; the second image is a graph of the United States. The graph displays the amount of federally owned national forest land in the United States. The two images work in sequential order to further the audiences understanding of the area that was auctioned off and the reach of the federal government to continue auctioning land.

Audience & Agenda:
MSNBC.com is a large site that reaches over 2.5 million U.S. monthly people. The site is funded by advertisement and appeals to a slightly more male than female, fairly wealthy, skewing older, more educated audience. The typical visitor visits nbcsports.com, subscribes to Newsweek, and reads Business Week.

Usefulness:

These two photos tell the story of an instance where a national forest was auctioned off under President Bush. Despite protest from the governor of Oregon and various environmentalists, the Bush administration auctioned Rouge River-Siskiyou National Forest for  lumber production. The graph provides the audience with an idea of exactly how much land in under federal control in the United States. This source may be a gateway to more information regarding this land. If the land is not too far away, then I can visit it, photograph it, and conduct a citizen interview with loggers about the land. I could also interview environmentalists about the land.
